I Am Proud of Dearborn Muslims

Dearborn Muslims disrupt meetingNews circulated that Dearborn Muslims have recently disrupted a school board meeting chanting, “Vote them out!” The room was packed with what appeared to be working class religious Muslims. Some of them held signs declaring homosexuality was a sin. The signs were written in both English and Arabic. It appeared that the meeting was held to protest the circulation of highly sexualized materials to school kids in their district including graphic descriptions of advice on how to perform gay sex. The parents who attended were visibly upset and every time someone spoke to defend the materials, they insisted that if the speaker wanted to sexualize their children it was up to them, but it certainly was not the school’s business to do so. Some insisted that in a democracy majorities mattered and since Muslims were the majority in Dearborn then they should be able to decide what materials their children were taught in school.

When Muslims protest socially liberal policies, it always makes the left nervous. Most Muslims vote for the Democratic party because they are worried about “Islamophobia” on the right. But per Muslims, they have little in common with the Democrats, especially the modern ones. Muslims are socially conservative and they are profoundly religious. Those values are frowned upon in the Democratic party when it comes to Christians although liberals like to make room for religious minorities within their coalition and what they frown upon when it comes to Christians, they become “multiculturalist” about when it comes to Muslims. However, this tolerance does reach a limit as when what appeared to be a white gay man in the meeting spoke accusing the attending Muslims of not in fact protesting the books, but homosexuality itself because they were always homophobic.

But the issue that is mobilizing Dearborn Muslims has been mobilizing parents across the country. There is no doubt that public schools are being used to filter down to school kids “The Current Thing” within the Democratic party. This is because the teachers’ union which is very powerful among teachers is a lobby of the Democratic party that acts as conduit for the party’s agenda as much as it lobbies the party for its policy preferences. Add to that, the educational consultancy sector is dominated by liberals-Schools of Education at universities are the producers par excellence of the langue of the Current Thing- and they are the ones designing and advising schools on this curricular update according to the Current Thing.

There are two ways to describe the Current Thing: CRT and Gender Ideology. Gender Ideology is an umbrella term for the move to promote bio-libertarianism (I choose the gender I am), and radical sexual libertarianism (minors can consent to sex even with adults, passing off sexual fetishisms as new “trans” identities, and exposing children to sex in the guise of educational materials). In order to promote this ideology, public schools are being used as educational emissaries of the new doctrines. Since the agenda is far more libertarian than most parents would tolerate, including liberal parents who consider themselves Democrats and who would pride themselves on their support for “inclusion”, schools appear to be treating parents as “reactionary obstacles” that need to be neutralized. Students are therefore being encouraged to conceal from their parents their “trans” identities in school, teachers acting in loco parentis when it comes to what they have constructed as the sex/gender life of the student. This kind of deliberate policy is reminiscent of sexual grooming of minors when the groomer works hard at alienating the minor from her parents and acting as the real trustworthy guardian that the minor should entrust her body to. Once the student lives a secret life in school without parents’ knowledge, then the student can be led on the path to medical transition having spent years being socially transitioned, through the assistance of the school, in secret. Parents find too late to convince their child to desist or early enough to remove the child from school and move to a different district. There is a push now to punish parents of students legally by taking their children away from them when they refuse to transition their children. Example: VA Democrat delegate Guzman bill.

Dearborn parents, like other parents, are disturbed by these developments apace in public schools in their area. The sunni Muslim world in particular has rejected transgenderism lock, stock and barrel. Al Azhar refuses to give license to trans surgeries in the Arab world. It has nevertheless been historically open to surgeries in the case of intersex children to transition the child to one sex or the other. But what it has refused to license is transitioning healthy bodies to a different sex from the one they were born into. This to be contrasted with Iran, a Shia country, which has operated as the largest trans surgery capital in the world as a way of transing its gay population. Dearborn parents, Sunni and Shia, support the Sunni position. The current radical restructuring of sex education in schools appears to them as a way of influencing their children to enter a sexual world they religiously oppose.

Having said that, it appears that the placards that were displayed in the meeting of the school board in Dearborn that some parents held were focusing on “homosexuality.” They saw the materials as primarily promoting homosexuality given their radical sexual nature-a book that advised elementary and primary students on how to perform oral sex and which was located in a school library appears to be the object of their venom. What those parents don’t appear to understand is that the Current Thing pushing transgenderism is designed to trans gay children even as it also includes instruction on how to perform oral gay sex. This kind of internal complexity of the ideology is missing from the parents’ consciousness and it is not surprising as the promoters of trans ideology attach it to gay politics when in fact it is practiced as hostile to it. It is an activist ideological attachment that promotes the idea that “trans” is as much of an innate identity as gay is when in fact “trans” is not simply a negation of homosexuality- gender subversive gay and lesbian children are groomed into thinking that their gender subversion means that they are the opposite gender- but it is also a pharmaceutical construct-some people are born in the wrong body- designed to create a market for the pharmaceutical and medical industrial complex by transforming healthy bodies into sickly ones for the lifetime of this body. One can never change one’s sex, one can only develop the secondary characteristics of the other sex through the assistance of hormones and surgeries both of which produce side effects that are detrimental to these bodies and make them dependent on medical care for the rest of their lives.

The activist attachment of trans to gay was designed to conceal the medical construction of trans in order to make it acceptable to liberals who think of themselves as pro gay. This attachment has proven toxic as Muslims had never approved of gay and were willing to adopt a laissez faire attitude to it as long as schools did not actively promote it. But the current indoctrination of trans as the new gay and gay as the new trans has proven toxic to Muslims who equate the one with the other and seem indifferent to the nuances and activist strategies of the Current Thing. If Muslim gay children had benefited from the laissez faire attitude of their parents in the past, they find themselves now “jammed” through this new indoctrination where their parents are being alerted to something radical afoot in schools and whatever cover Muslim gay children had has been blown by the hyper liberal activists in the public school system.

This is unfortunate to my mind and will prove destructive to gay Muslims. Not only will they find themselves caught in an ideology, transgenderism, that is hostile to their homosexuality, but to their parents who misinterpret transgenderism as promoting homosexuality. This will push them I think further back into the closet as the mobilization of parents against trans ideology is important indeed necessary to get rid of this toxic ideology, and yet the confusion of trans and gay in the Current Thing, will make adjudicating the difference hard vis a vis hyper mobilized Muslim parents. The arguments that these parents will make, which other religious conservatives in this country also make, that the one has naturally led to the other, becomes hard to beat.

I blame this “clusterfuck” on gays who either remained silent in the face of rising trans ideology or actively promoted it. I have many gay friends in my life and since I started raising the specter of the dangers of trans ideology I have been met with either indifference, dismissal, or hostility. Many of my gay friends seem to think that trans is another gay (that trans is innate just as gay is). Some find it hard to resist the “inclusion” demand of current day LGBTQIA++ activism. Others, just don’t care about the whole thing. One of my gay friends retorted, “I just don’t care. I have my rights.” A lesbian friend who approved of trans politics, and confronted with the disastrous effects it had on teenage girls most of whom would have grown to be butch lesbians said, “Well they just have to learn the hard way.” This cruel dismissal was simply shocking to me. There is also the problem o misogyny among gay men who may harbor unconscious hostility to women who have usurped the highly desirable straight man from them. When I raised the concerns I have with trans ideology as a woman to one gay friend- the invasion of women’s private spaces by so called “trans women”, the destruction of women’s sports, the including of transwomen (males)in women’s prisons, etc,” I was told by him that, “All TERFS are old and they will soon die.”

The fact that that there was very little pushback from within the “coalition” to the Current Thing means that parents have to carry the burden. And they will in defense of their children. Under those circumstances no one can complain from the activist left about the “homophobia” of Muslims. You willed it that way.

And that is why I am very proud of Dearborn Muslims.

I want to say one last thing. Those working class Muslims that attended the meeting will be fought by other Muslims. There is a Muslim educated class that identifies as Democrats and that sees its fortunes: wealth and career, associated with loyalty to the Democratic party. Those will find the alliance between Muslim parents and conservative parents objectionable. Whether they work in government and owe their governmental career to the Democratic party, or they work as academics in an institution that rewards this affiliation or they are wealthy elites who have intuited that the Democratic party is now the party of the wealthy or who harbor class contempt for these hyper religious working class Muslims, all these will resist this alliance. And I say, let’s fight them all and build a movement that saves them from themselves and their petty concerns.
